Web Development Methods

WISE has been present in the Web Engineering community since the very early days. In 1998, WISE developed one of the first so called Web Engineering methods, WSDM, which is well recognized in the scientific community. WSDM provides a systematic way to develop and deploy high quality Web applications, taking into account issues such as usability, device dependency, semantic annotations, etc. For more information on WSDM, consult the WSDM project page.

The research in this track also deals with issues such a accessibility (i.e. ensure that all people, also those with a disability, can access the web system) and localization/internationalization of web systems.

Accessibility research tries to ensure that all people, also those with a disability, can access the web system. This becomes more and more difficult due to the use of Web technologies such as Flash and RIA (Rich Internet Applications) technologies (e.g. AJAX).

The research on localization and internationalization takes into consideration that web systems are consulted by people from different parts of the world having different cultures. One way to deal with this is to create different versions for different countries or different parts of the world (i.e. localization). Another solution is to avoid cultural dependent aspects as much as possible (i.e. internationalization).
